Highway 30 traffic delayed by truck crash | News | tillamookheadlightherald.com

U.S. Highway 30 was closed at mile 42.5 near the former Trojan plant area around 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 24. A commercial box truck with NAPA Auto Parts markings crashed in a single-vehicle accident. Oregon State Police dispatch reported that one lane was opened around 1:30 p.m. that day.

Sunset Auto Parts (a NAPA affiliate) President Barry Hess confirmed that the truck had originated from their Hillsboro location and was traveling Highway 30 towards a final destination of Castle Rock.

Hess said the truck was between St. Helens and Rainier when a motor home in opposing traffic lost a tire, which rolled under the box truck, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and smash over a guardrail.

Columbia River Fire & Rescue and other local agencies responded to the scene and found the driver pinned to the overturned truck. The driver was freed with heavy vehicle extrication equipment and transported by helicopter to OHSU. According to Hess, the driver was in good condition with no serious injuries and was being held for observation.

Both lanes were closed between St. Helens and Rainier for several hours, and the single-lane access lasted into the evening. A utility pole was struck and broken in the crash but Columbia River PUD made rapid repairs shortly after the crash occurred.
